The Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START) provides a safety net for those in crisis. Recently, a 30-year old single father of two struggled to find work, to pay for daycare for his children and to secure a home; so much time was spent homeless and hopeless.

STEM Guitar Build 2025 - Summer Enrichment - 2024 Amount Funded: $4,850.00
Our purpose for 2025 is: 1) to expand our capacity to meet rising demand. 2) to expose the next generation of students to technical fields in a cool and exciting way. 3) to reach out to non-traditional STEAM student that might not otherwise be exposed to technologies. 4) to expose our teenage students to STEAM programming and the possibilities of working in technical careers in and around our community. 5) to inspire, engage, and challenge the students to learn skill sets required to complete this exploratory project. 6) to build students confidence by mastering STEAM activities 7) to provide an outlet for fun, creative energy, and excitement.
In 2025, the STEAM (Science,Technology,Engineering,Art,Math) Guitar build will celebrate our 10th year. It is a direct outgrowth from our successful launch of "Girls Make Electric Guitars" in 2015 inaugural event. The program has become immensely popular and has grown significantly in ten years, both in the number of students served and the complexity of the instruments. What started as an initiative to encourage non-tradition student participation in STEAM has expanded to include all students. The program emphasizes relevant engineering and 21st century skills of collaboration, problem solving, and communication - all defining elements of social-emotional development and college and career readiness. Students build confidence as they overcome the technical challenges in programming Lasers, 3D printing component parts, running CNC machines, soldering electronic circuits, instrument making and final tuning. The programs playbook includes disciplines of study from Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Both formal and informal learning takes place in a relaxed setting that makes learning fun and inclusive. In 2024, 24 applicants competed for the 12 slots. With increased funding we hope to offer more slots. In 2024, Cummins Inc and student volunteers banked over 100 hours volunteer time.
