| The Dementia Friendly Coalition is working hard on making Stoughton a community that is accepting and supporting of those with dementia and their care partners through various initiatives, including a Memory Cafe. We want those with dementia to feel comfortable interacting in their community and not afraid to maintain their social freedoms. In addition, the Memory Cafe encourages friendships and acceptance, while allowing care partners to recognize that they are not in this alone. Participants share conversation, reminisce, and engage in activities specialized to their interests. |
| In addition to making Stoughton a dementia friendly community by initiating the items shared above, we have implemented a Memory Cafe, which meets monthly at the Stoughton Library. Memory Cafes originated in England and have quickly gained popularity across Wisconsin and the nation. A memory cafe is an early-stage social engagement program that offers a comfortable way for individuals living with memory and cognitive problems to engage with peers in a safe, community-based social setting. The program is driven by the interests of the group participants. |
