The Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START) provides a safety net for those in crisis. Recently, a 30-year old single father of two struggled to find work, to pay for daycare for his children and to secure a home; so much time was spent homeless and hopeless.

Assist the poor and needy in the Stoughton Area School District - 2016 Amount Funded: $3,700.00
Any funds we receive would allow us to help more of the poor and needy in the Stoughton Area School District. Based on the amount of requests we receive our treasury can get quite low at times and that severely limits the amount of help we can provide. Any amount you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
We receive calls for assistance from the church offices, START, Dane County Human Services, and other community groups. Each week we have a team of two of our members who are “on call.” They visit the client, normally in their home, to discuss the request and see if there are any other needs we can help with. We provide assistance with rent, utilities, emergency housing, and other basic expenses. We make sure they are aware of all the resources available to them: furniture/clothing at our store, food pantries, help with medical services and prescriptions, county resources, etc. In order to maximize the use of our funds, we limit the amount we can give a client. We review the limit at our monthly meeting and adjust it based on the current balance in our treasury. Our checks are never given directly to the clients but sent directly to whoever is owed the money.

Assist the Poor and Needy in the SASD - 2022 Amount Funded: $2,000.00
Any funds we receive would be dispersed throughout the year as requests come in and home visits are made. We strive to make a positive impact on Stoughton area people in need by helping provide assistance with housing, utilities, and other basic needs. Based on the number of requests we receive, our treasury can get quite low at times and that limits the amount of help we can provide. Any amount you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
Our goal is to continue to assist those in need in the Stoughton Area School District through our home visits by providing assistance with rent, utilities, occasional car repair costs, emergency/temporary housing, and other basic expenses. In order to maximize the use of our funds, we limit the amount we give to any one client at any one time and over the course of a year. We review this amount at our monthly business meeting and adjust it based on the balance in our treasury. Checks are sent directly to the landlord or company owed and are never given to the client. Sometimes we use gas cards and gift cards to places where we cannot write a check. The amount we spend every year varies depending on requests, but in 2021 we provided direct aid of more than $16,000 to clients primarily for rent, utilities, and temporary housing. We made a total of 87 visits and 185 people (including all family members) were assisted. We logged 523 volunteer hours over the year.
