The Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START) provides a safety net for those in crisis. Recently, a 30-year old single father of two struggled to find work, to pay for daycare for his children and to secure a home; so much time was spent homeless and hopeless.

Meeting the healthy needs of our neighbors - 2023 Amount Funded: $2,000.00
These funds will be used to purchase healthy food options and produce that will no longer be available from local farmers and farmers market donations. Along with good healthy choices, the volunteers provide suggestions for preparation and storage of these healthy food items to reduce waste. The client is appreciative of these suggestions and interactions. This food pantry is designated as the Emergency Pantry in town. Our relationship with our clients is important to us. We want them to know that this community works together to provide a great place to live and that our pantry is just one piece of it. We ask for their input and help to understand their needs.
During the last few years those in need of assistance with food were given increased amounts of assistance through government programs. Those programs have since changed their amount of assistance. Also, large sums of money were directed through the Second Harvest Food Bank, which donated significant amounts of food directly to pantries. Because both of those programs have changed how they help the community members/food pantries in need we are seeing many new clients and having to purchase more food, not only through our partnership with Second Harvest, but also through local food stores. During these beautiful summer months, we have been blessed with donations from local farmers and farmers markets. Those will end soon. Our current volunteers work hard at obtaining donations from local stores, where we also make our purchases. Our pantry is funded through monetary donations from our members, from community members, and friends of the pantry, and through fundraising. We currently have 18 volunteers who work anywhere from 1 to 4 days per week, picking up food, sorting food, stocking shelves, working directly with clients, ordering food, shopping and recording pantry information needed to keep our partnership with Second harvest Foodbank. We have just added an additional 3 hours of accessibility to our pantry because of the increase in clients. We are now open Monday evening, Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
