The Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START) provides a safety net for those in crisis. Recently, a 30-year old single father of two struggled to find work, to pay for daycare for his children and to secure a home; so much time was spent homeless and hopeless.

Stoughton Food Pantry – Providing Healthier Food for Stoughton’s Citizens in Need - 2016 Amount Funded: $5,000.00
The purpose of this project is to enable the Food Pantry to continue its work of assisting the people of Stoughton. The fund raising project is needed to provide funds toward the approximate $80,000 - $100,000 in cash needed each year to keep the pantry operating at the current level and to expand our efforts to provide healthier choices to our clients. The generosity of the Stoughton citizens, businesses and civic groups has enabled the pantry to continue to serve the less fortunate. This year in particular we are working to provide healthy fresh fruits and vegetables for our clients.
The City of Stoughton Food Pantry supports approximately 180 families each month. For the most recent month, the pantry supported some 460 citizens of the Stoughton area including about 145 children. Beginning in September 2016, we have also begun to hand out vouchers worth $5 for fresh produce. This is in addition to the $10 general grocery voucher we also have handed out for many years. It will cost an additional $900 per month or about $10,000 per year to provide this Produce Voucher for some fresh fruits and vegetables that clients are able to choose on their own. Currently we do provide limited fresh produce and will continue to do so, but due to cold storage and space limitations, we hope that providing the Produce Voucher (good at Stoughton Pick n Save) will give healthier food to all of our clients.

City of Stoughton Food Pantry- Holiday Fund - 2017 Amount Funded: $3,000.00
The purpose of the project is to provide food for a holiday dinner at Christmas or New Years time. We have provided vouchers to enable pantry patrons at Thanksgiving time to purchase a Thanksgiving Diner. Last year families of 1 or 2 received a $15 voucher while larger families received a $30 voucher. Assuming similar numbers for a Holiday Food Voucher, (about 65 - $15 vouchers and 65 - $30 vouchers) this would come to just under $3000. In the past we have been able to get donors to support the Thanksgiving voucher and hope they will come through again this year. We have never before been able to provide a voucher in the Holiday Season.
This year we have had a number of extremely generous donations. As such we are able to fund our existing needs. However recently the City of Stoughton Holiday Fund, which provided foods for Holiday dinners by distributing food baskets announced they would cease operation. In the 2016 holiday season they provided gift cards in place of the foods for a holiday dinner. Thus we would like to create a Holiday Fund for pantry patrons by providing them with a food voucher good at Pick n Save
