Mission: The mission of the Stoughton Area Community Foundation is to make a difference in the lives of area residents through charitable donations.
History: The Stoughton Area Community Foundation is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 charity established by a group of caring citizens with the help of an anonymous donor. Wanting to leave money to the community he loved, but not knowing what its needs would be in the future, a Foundation was established in 1999 as a way for Stoughton Area Residents to give back to their community. The Foundation accepts tax-deductible donations, invests the money, and provides grants to area organizations for their projects and good works in the community. Donations, both large and small, come from businesses, corporations, estates, and from individuals who care about the future of the Stoughton Area and its citizens.
The Foundation works with an expanding pool of charitable dollars donated by people willing to invest in the future of the Stoughton area to enhance the quality of life for the Stoughton area and its citizens. SACF distributes funds each year in the form of grants which favor projects that propose practical solutions to current community needs, promote collaboration in addressing positive change, promote volunteer involvement and/or strengthen an organization's effectiveness and stability. College scholarships are also given to graduates of Stoughton High School.
The foundation has three main goals:
|
1. |
To professionally manage charitable gifts and provide grants and scholarships in a manner consistent with the donors’ specific and general interests; |
|
2. |
To strengthen the nonprofit agencies and institutions which offer programs in education, social welfare, health care, the arts, community development, historic preservation and other fields; |
|
3. |
To provide philanthropic opportunities by matching community needs with public and private responses. |
Letter from the President:
The Stoughton Community Foundation exists in the confidence that Stoughton is a wonderful community - and that it can be even better. The foundation's board is a group of volunteers who care about Stoughton, and are on the lookout for ideas and projects that can contribute to the community.
Generous donations from people who care about Stoughton have made it possible for us to offer financial support for people and organizations who can make meaningful contributions to our community - helping those who need a boost; fostering the creative arts; adding educational enrichment; bringing new ideas to fulfillment.
It is a privilege to be a part of this ongoing effort to build a greater Stoughton. We greatly appreciate the efforts and the donations which have made it possible for us to come this far.
Please feel free to contact any member of the board with your questions and suggestions. We have been delighted to have the support of the community, and look forward to ever greater opportunities as the foundation moves into its second decade.
David Houser
